Friday Find :: NYC Apothecary Candles {C.O. Bigelow Chemists}
C.O. Bigelow is a quirky old New York City pharmacy (in fact, the oldest apothecary in the country) in the West Village that's packed with treasures beyond the usual drugstore offerings. Known for its prolific selection of European cosmetics, homeopathic remedies and toiletries, C.O. Bigelow is a New York City institution. Nestled among the expensive imported brands are Bigelow's own line of affordable products, including their three wick vegetable wax candles. Bigelow's candles are a bargain at just under $20 (they can be found on sale for as low as $14). Scented with essential oils, made with lead-free wicks and 40+ hours of burn time they are a steal - especially compared to the other luxury candles in the store (including Tocca, Diptyque and Hôtel Costes). Bigelow's Green Tea scent is my favorite. It has the subtle scent of clean laundry with an herbal twist. Bigelow candles come in a lovely apothecary-inspired glass jars with metal lids and have three wicks that allow the candle to burn evenly. Several of the scents are only available in the actual store (including the Green Tea scent); Lemon and Firewood are both available online.
